Palazzo 477 Report post Posted June 26, 2011 Obviously this is my week for things BMW to go wrong (E36 coolant leak, E30 rear lights failed, gear shift in E30 difficult) and now this. When I try and open the drivers door, the handle is very stiff and occasionally won't open at all. I've watched the window and it doesn't seem to drop as it normally does when you pull the handle. I'm assuming this is the microswitch (?) in the door not working properly? Any ideas on where, how hard and how much to fix? Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted June 26, 2011 what year is it , there are 2 types of micro switches used , the earlier cars have the switch inside the door attached to the outside handle mech. the later cars have teh switch in the door jam. both can fail . later one much easier to fix . also the outside door handle mechs can crack and break etc. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

OP6 27 Report post Posted June 26, 2011 I have never had the handle as bad as that, but I have had success with lock lubricant in the key lock and WD40 sprayed inside the external and internal door handles when held open. Worth a try. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
