hooking laptop to onboard computer

Hi guys, i want to know what cable I need to be able to hook my car's onboard computer upto my laptop?

is it an ibus cable or obcII cable?

I have a 1996 E39 540i

any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Take it you mean you want to talk to devices on your ibus network. There isnt a computer so to speak that you connect too, there are lots of things.

You need:

Navcoder

Ibus interface such as a resler interface or make one (see navcoder download for circuit diagram)

and an entry point to your ibus network. Easiest is connecting to your CD stacker input. White is the ibus line.
