hybrid 1039 Report post Posted August 2, 2011 A few things can cause this to cause DOP (Dilution of Precision) ... placement of GPS receiver, buildings or built up environments, weather and satlillite numbers and the position of the satillite counts. Note as a satillite gets lower on its horizon it becomes more in-accurate thus causing a higher DOP value. BMW's nav computers have some smarts/logic built in to deal with this. Lock to road is activated to deal with bad GPS signal or loss of signal. Much better than google's iphone map software for example which has none and is shocking as a mobile in-car GPS app. Yep, know what you mean with mobile in car nav units - the Navman in my work ute is crap in this regard too - slow to react to change of direction at intersections & cursor often veering off the road - compared to the BMW system - which is way superior. That said - can't say I have ever seen a - altitude reading on mine.
