e30 boot alignment

Recommended Posts

Can you adjust the boot on an e30 so that it isnt lopsided? my right side sits higher than my left, i've tried using nylon washers at the mounts to make it sit flush, but boot starts leaking water because it sits too high :(

any suggestions welcome

if you cant make it line up any other way do what you did with the nylon washers, when it sits flat, remove the rubber seal strip and put some string or something of the sort inside it to make that sit slightly higher aswell.

Does the right side have to go down or does the left have to go up?

the right side has to go down, as the left side sits at a perfect position above the lights

2 little rubber stops that screw in and out at the rear of the boot lid.

Westy's comment solved the issue for me, thanks for the all input guys, much appreciated, will try the string thing Oli mentioned to seal up the boot better.

Sam@TMBMW- i tried adjusting the boot at the hinges, but doesnt really do anything. You probably need to shift the boot latch hook on the boot ( the adjustable L shaped thing) left or right, as this is the centre(ish) of the boot, and will locate the boot relative to the locking latch. Hope that makes sense...

Further to this, what's the best way to align a boot left to right so the paenl gap is the same either side?

Take the latch off the boot and close it. Give it a shove if it isn't aligned while it's open. Dont be too rough ha.

You should be able to realign the hinges (bend them).

Reattach the latch and adjust it on the boot lid if needed.

The bonnet hight adjusts the same as the boot.

Doors have shims ect ect...
