Coffee&Doughnut 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2005 Has anyone here used a spacer on the steering wheel of an E30,I would like to have the steering wheel a little closer without cramping my leg space. If so, can one be made relatively easily or can they be bought at a reasonable price?
E30-323ti 66 Report post Posted May 24, 2005 If you are running a MOMO wheel you can get spacers from your local distributor, they are ~12mm thick.
Coffee&Doughnut 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2005 I got an M-tech 1or 2, I have not removed the steering wheel but it would be interesting to see if one could be machined up. Are the Momo spacers specific to the fit of thier wheels?
OLLIE 26 Report post Posted May 24, 2005 the standard set up includes a spacer that goes over the main shaft/bolt you could easily get one made up twice the size out of a bit of aluminium on an eng lathe, would only get an extra inch max because you still need some thread to put the nut on! Coffee&Doughnut 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2005 Thanks for the info. I might give it a shot, an inch or so might not be much difference, but a minor improvement at little cost and effort. :thumb:

Coffee&Doughnut 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 Yeah yeah, I pretty much drive bolt upright like a dork anyway. Well then, just to recap on the spacer biz, I could only get about 8mm difference from the original position before the steering wheel lock ceases to engage and the horn wont work, so I guess I will just live with the original set up for now.
