thorburn 121 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 This stuff is all new to me so i'm not really sure what I am looking for. I've all ready purchased a racetech 1000 seat. But am looking for another seat. The seat is for my dad. So about 6 foot and 100ish kg's What is recommended? i'll have him try out the seats once I find out some options Where to buy? If I can go cheap without sacrificing safety that be nice Is it a risk to buy second hand or will problematic damage be obvious. I'm also after 2 harnesses. Not sure really what I should be looking for. Are some harnesses not suitable for FHR (eg. HAN's) devices? 6 point harnesses seem to be prefered over 5 point. Is this correct? Cam lock or lever? is this just a personal preference thing? I've only ever used a cam lock Any difference between the cheaper harnesses (eg jamex) to other more expensive fia approved harnesses? or is it just paying for the brand name Where to buy? Any help would be much appreciated
huff3r 347 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 I can help with a few points... -Definitely go Cam-lock, in the unlikely event that you end up upside down a lever-latch harness will not release. -As far as I can tell Jamex harnesses are fine, they are FIA approved and therefore built to a certain standard. -Cheap seats can be uncomfortable, depending on your build. My Jamex seats kill me after 30mins driving. Not such a problem on the track however. Sorry thats all I can help with at the moment.

huff3r 347 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 Cheers, the lever latch bit is news to me Apparently they can't be opened when there is pressure on the belt, eg when upside down. Although a belt cutter fixes that.
M5V8 337 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) Any FIA approved belts are fine. they are built to a standard. I wouldn't trust anything less. Racetech do their own...I have their 6 point 3" belts and never had a problem. Upgraded from a 5 point sabelt on the advice that in the event of a front end accident the extra point stops you "submarining" in the seat & nutting yourself. Price difference between 5 & 6 wasn't alot. Never liked the lever as I've watched ppl struggle to get them done up. Hans probably will need the 3" belt to work properly...but I'm not 100% on that. Damaged or expired belts will not pass schedule A certification and are checked at each event. A recent rule change allows undamaged belts to be used for 5 years past their expiry.
