So ive had a little oil leak for a while, small drip off the bell housing.

Didn't get to fix it before i left akl, a week or so ago my ccv shat itself so i ordered a new one off ray. Also the airbag light was on

I took it into a place here in qtown that services mercs and a few other brands, does do bmw but dont specialised in them, which is why i only asked them to find the leak, as its hot here and had gotten worse.

They steam cleaned the engine and couldnt find a leak anywhere, asked me to come back and in a few days.

Suggested it could be my osv/ccv. $112.95

I took it through to dunedin as i wanted them to change my osv and do a full scan, and clear the airbag light.. and look for my oil leak. I had researched and asked ray how youd go about changing it, as there were some people saying you need to remove the air intake manifold, where others said you can do it without by reaching over and undoing the hex bolts.

So they fixed it quickly, i hung around knowing it Wont take long.

Their conclusion is that its possibly the osv leaking but could possibly be the r/hand valve cover.. but was unsure.

Finally had a day free so i thought id look at the plugs/coils as apparently they can cause some of the ticking that m62's have from loose plugs.

Looks like Im busy next weekend, whats the best treatment?

Bead blast and powder coat? Or prime and high temp paint?

Cant see in pic but was a little bit of oil pooled in there.

Forgot to say the first place wanted to take intake off and check valley pan.

Cookies in dunedin also pressure washed my car, which was nice as it was dirty from the drive, but wrecked one of my pdc sensors which was sad, although had come right as of yesterday, mustve been some water inside it.

Be careful with a sand or bead blaster. You can damage these very easily. Especially the sealing surfaces, where the gaskets fit. Also make sure when you refit them you use new bolt seals as well. These tension the rocker cover onto the RC seal to keep them oil tight.

Forgot to say the first place wanted to take intake off and check valley pan.

They don't have one. Thats a cooling system gallery under the plenum chamber. If you didn't know the motor you would think it was an oil valley pan. These are also prone for leaking coolant and I've had to replace a few

Ok, thanks for that info.

Anything else? from what you can see in the pic?

Just give the coil packs a clean down?

Have read that a few people just wire brush then sand, a few have high temp painted, as the flaking near the sealing surface can cause the gaskets not to seal as its uneven when replacing the new gasket.

When I had my timing chain guides and all the associated hoo-hah replaced in mine, i got the valve colours acid dipped to remove the remaining bits of paint on them. They will need some sanding to smooth out the rough surface. I never bothered. Any way I bought some self-priming hi temp silver paint, and it's lasted 2 years so far. Where any of your plugs loose? I've had the bosch ones come loose on two occasions in 20,000kms. I installed the factory spec'd NKG's and no looseness issues in over 10,000kms so far.

Have found them in the us for $86 nzd shipped. Found them here around the 150 mark.

Cool, sounds like the go.. i opened the drivers side cover and the first bolt was missing and it turns out that the magnesium has been exposed and broken off, i touched it and it turned to powder :-(

Yup using the BKR6EQUP got 8 of them for $68.32 USD + Shipping (ended up buying a few other bits and pieces as well) I got them from www.autohausaz.com

So i pulled the coils and checked my plugs last night.

6 out of 8 were loose enough to turn by hand, and 7 had carbon build up, one was missing a prong which was worrying.

4 had oil gunk on the sides.

Still waiting on my ngk to arrive, ones in the car are all Bosch.

Going to do valve cover gasket and get the covers re done hopefully next week

Engine is amazingly quiet, aside from the Vanos knock, which cant be heard when the engine cover is on.

Apparently there is a repair for the vanos knock, It seems quite promising, but also rather labour intensive. Lots of info on Bimmerforums.com about it.

Hmm i thought it was a new unit that fixes it.

I know the Dr vanos guy doesnt have a kit for the v8's.

Revving past 3k a few times is recommend in the service manual apparently.
