e28 turbo tuning problem

Recommended Posts

finally the low oil pressure solved..dont ask-it was stupid

now, working to get it ready for the end of the month-bmwcc in taupo.

it hasnt been 'properly' tuned since it its been built,so really keen to visit Gavin.

problem is,i need a old dinosaur laptop with the old school rs232 port.

have tried several leads,usb-serial,but the software wont/cant find the com port.

even tried a PC with a serial port etc, still no go

geussing its working too fast/not reading slow enough.not 100% with tech so i'm at a loss at the moment.

Gavin wants it all to work before i turn up,and rightly so.

anyone able to help/point into the right direction?

that would be great.cheers marty

sorry should have posted that, EMS 8860

I had trouble with my usb to serial adapter too, but after looking around online I managed to get it working reliably.

You must first make sure you have the correct driver for your version of windows.

This is the one I'm using for my xp pro but is compatible with windows 2000 :

On my laptop (control panel => System => driver manager => Usb device) i can select which com port the adapter uses, and also which com port on the tuning program (mapecu => tools => ecu config in my case). Choose a port below 15 if you can, the lower the better. Doing this fixed my issue.

Also you could try PCMCIA to Serial adapter if the above doesn't work. They are by far the most reliable adapting method. Even with a serial port you still need to get the correct driver for it, usually have to install manually (this means uninstalling the incorrect driver first).

I spent a long time researching the best method of connection and have stayed with my usb to serial. Since i installed the correct prolific driver for it hasn't faulted me.
