Wheel Bearing Failure

Recommended Posts

I had my front left wheel bearing replaced a month ago today. It was a brand new assembly, fresh out of the box.

I went to get a warrant today at my local workshop who also fitted the new bearing and...FAIL, on the front left wheel bearing. WTF! It did sound pretty haggard.

I'd had my wheels recently balanced etc, so what could have caused it to fail in one month?! Defective unit from the outset? Poor installation?

And to add to the shitness, I got a puncture on the way to the warrant. So I failed on that too. <_<

Did the workshop supply the wheel bearing as well? I would have thought it was a definite warranty claim - 1 month is well outside what I would expect for the life of one....

You might be on thin ice though if you supplied the bearing and they installed it - everyone will point to another party and say it's their fault.

I found out its under warranty for a year so I'm getting sent a replacement and sending the faulty unit back so they can find out what went wrong. I'm quite interested to see the result, whether it was a defective assembly or an overly aggressive pothole, there's quite are a few of them around these parts.

bad news,

I'm a fan of genuine bearings only , they seem to last the test of time and have a better warranty period

found alot of aftermarket fail

Also best to have a BMW specialist fit them. Last wheel bearing I replaced under warranty (to member on here) had been damaged during fitting. The inner race had been dislodged and there were bits of the carrier all through the bearing......
