Flux 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 Hi everyone, Brand new to the forums, and so happy with my BMW I've just purchased. After owning Nissan's and Toyota's for the past 10 years, I'm finally seeing what I've been missing. I picked up an E46 320i and love it to bits already. However, I have one question I was hoping someone might be able to answer. I noticed that when I went to pick it up, the badge on the rear is 323i, thinking maybe the seller was mistaken with the model (2 owners, mother and son and mother had it since it was imported, son for 2 months). However the rego is a 320i. So im assuming the badge or boot has been swapped in the past. I dont mind, i figured it was a 320 anyway. I know there are other ways to check the precise model (carjam, vin lookups on other online sites) but my question is, is there a visual difference in the motor of a 1999 323i vs a 320i motor? - or another way to tell? Thanks! - time to start doing some mods now!
nath 134 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 Welcome Just look up the vin on a basic decoder. Possible but entirely unlikely someone has gone to the effort of swapping in a 323 engine.

I agree, and happy to be here. Although the question was more about a visual difference between engines
