gacrock 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2012 (edited) hey ,hi to all.... this is all new to me being my first forum .. any way long story short got lumbered with a 323i, e36, jap import, 210000ks ,97' auto, starts cold straight away, drives excellent , seems to have plenty power, stop for a short time or up to a few hours and wont start straight off - takes 2-3 good cranks sometimes easier than others . now ive read a bit about bmw having a probs with the nikalsil blocks , of which i think this is , so would it be low compression causing the warm start prob ???? doesnt seem to blow any smoke when driving, a little on start sometimes !!! . but a mate in the know said the bore can be worn in the the centre of the stroke/bore!!! or am i on the wrong track and is it a sensor saying engine still cold or something like that .... well thanks for listening hope some one out there can shed a little light on it . cheers PS(when i say 'got lumbered'im not saying i dont like bmw's - im just saying i may have bought a dud one, i bought this to replace the e30 we sold.) *Glenn* 854 Report post Posted April 20, 2012 I'd get it scanned first. Most sensors on the car are temperature sensitive. You need to do this first before anything else
BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted April 20, 2012 like glenn said get it scanned to be sure. cam sensors fail often on these and make it hard to start , also sometimes intermitant fuel pump

*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 (edited) I suggest you spent a couple of grand on the car replacing all the above... then get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing with all the right gear Edited April 24, 2012 by *Glenn*
gacrock 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 (edited) I suggest you spent a couple of grand on the car replacing all the above... then get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing with all the right geari have recently found out , it has been to a reputable bmw specialist dealership garage for this prob, it was also serviced ,wof etc... from them . they couldnt find prob with there diagnostic ... + haven't exactly got a couple of grand just lying round to chuck at it hoping that will do it - unless your offering a loan, ha . any way thanks for your feed back Edited April 26, 2012 by gacrock

gacrock 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 (edited) how did you test or look at that ??? try jk southern euro down your way Yea i will when i get to welly. i know john , hes good, i bought a g-box 4 my old e30 from him. My local mechanic put his diag computer (snap-on) on it - no faults - thought it would show up fault if cam sens no good ., also i know a guy working for bmw he said they had done diag on it a few months back , came up ok , so he thinks its compression in middle of bore??? i changed fuel filter last week, seems a bit better missis recons..? as i said first thing in morn starts first click ??? strange....
