X3 Suspension

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had experience with changing the suspension on an '09 E83 X3?

I'm finding the ride a little too harsh.

If yes, what setup did you use?

Thanks Greg, but it adds to the confusion, I drove an '08 3.0 petrol yesterday running 17" standard wheels and didn't notice too much difference. Both the ASAP Reports didn't mention sports spension, except for the different fuel and wheel sizes everything was similar.

Change the tyres , the suspension should be fine.

What brand of tyres is fitted and are they run flats?

run flat tyres?

No, 18" 45 profile normal tyres.

not runflats mate

Not run-flats just the normal 18" Dunlop SP Sports that it came with. The vehicle is just coming up to 30k and the tyres look like they have plenty of life left.

Went to one local tyre place to see if they would recommend going to a 55 or 60 profile to get more sidewall, and they wouldn't. They said that the increase in rolling circumference would confuse the ASC and could cause the transmission to not get top gear etc etc

Has anybody had that happen with other models? Does their theory hold up?

Thanks Ron,

Didn't find the date codes but running 2.5 front & back.

I'll drop them to what you've recommended and try.

Date code is not the most obvious thing on a tyre but this should give you a good idea...

To be fair, the X3 does ride reasonably hard, theres no real way to "fix" it as such,

I have driven plenty with standard suspension and sports suspension and they aren't that much different.

They ride significantly harder than an X5, the body is smaller and somewhat stiffer so theres not a lot of give.

I think 3.0sd came with runflats from memory but they have a spare so many people changed to standard tyres ( silly if you ask me)

I suspect you will have to learn to live with it.
