m10b18 belt layout

Recommended Posts

have picked up this tidy little 318i, changed the crank seal and noted that the belt layout looked a bit odd. The alt belt was on an angle. On reassembly i cant get it back together any other way. Wondering if the belts on it are the wrong size or if the alt is mounted crooked. Does anyone have a diagram of the right belt layout?

I assume you mean that it is skewed around the vertical axis? Mine was, the rubber bushes in the alternator mount had gone soft. a temp fix was to remove them and reinstall so that the pressure is now on the 'good' part of the rubber. Or just get new ones or whip some up from nylon.

pics attached. Looks like the alt has rotated on stuffed bushes?
