Air Bag Light On

Recommended Posts

I want to replace what ever is at fault with my 1998 BMW E36 328i's air bag system.

Last time I had it scanned and reset the light stayed off for over a year so didn't bother to fix.

Time has come to rectify the problem this time around.

I like to do the DIY thing but keen to get a scan done so I replace the correct part and also probably need to get the reset done after the part is replaced.

Anyone in central Auckland who can help with a scan and reset?

Your help is appreciated. Can do beer or cash.

Can't help due to not being in Auckland sorry.

Refreshing though to see someone not trying to diagnose/scan the problem over the forum  , or wanting to cheap fix & bypass the problem

Good luck with the repair :)

You can buy a scan tool pretty cheap, just have to fiddle getting it setup on a PC, and away you go. Handy for next time too ;)

Yes ideally this is what I would do, had a look at Carsoft.

But as per usual I've left it till the last minute and my warrant is due the end of the week, so on a bit of a tight timeline.

Cheers.

It will more than likely be the seat occupancy sensor in the passengers seat, gotta remove the seat then strip the base, tricky if you haven't done it before.

Or the seat belt pre tensioner wiring, loom needs replacing with modified item.

Two of the more common airbag faults with E36, E46, E39 etc.

But yes a scan will suss it.
