1 series ABS/TSC(?) lights

Recommended Posts

Looking for a 1 series for the wife. There is this one in Auckland which throws up ABS, TSC(?) or parking brake lights when hitting speed bumps. This suggests loose or dirty contacts, maybe.

BM Workshop which did the last WOF and service said not to worry until the next service. Possibly $500 fix according to them.

Would I be a brave chap thinking about buying this car for the price he asks or just send it for a PPI to get difinitive answers. Here is the picture sent by the seller.

gf's pulsar did this with the abs light, ended up just been a loose connection

one of her mates knows an auto sparky so it didn't cost much to get fixed, but I'd say her car would be a whole heap easier to work on

would be prudent to get it thoroughly inspected by a specialist anyway

I haven't seen one loose contact on a BMW yet, it'll be a speed sensor or control unit.

Thanks.

Control unit would be on the $1k mark while a sensor is $200, if all 4 then would be getting up there too....

BM Workshop told the owner it doesn't need to be sorted out til the next service meaning not a WOF issue?

Car doesn't have multi-function wheel or cruise, less interesting to me now.

How's 1 series reliability when it's getting to 130000kms mark?

1 Series are good cars, very little problems except the engine can have a few issues, oil leaks etc, other than that they are great we cars.

Will need to be sorted before next wof.

Sounds like a poverty pack special to me.

Would see whether he'd discount $2-3k :-)

Was an ex-demo car.

If he'd D/C it 3k then you shouldn't have much to worry about IMO! What price & pics?

Clicky

Don't know, might be getting a car from the UK though, resell price a couple of yrs later would essentially be the landed price. Esp. with getting VAT back....

Let's have a wee look at it; if it was only a $500 fix (apparently) then why the hell wouldn't they just do it to provide a better sale for themselves?

If you're keen on it, put it to them; get the issue professionally diagnosed then we'll talk on $$$ This is how I'd attack it.

agreed,it would be this or a discount big enough to cover any and every scenario. To be able to quantify that it needs to be diagnosed properly.

Thanks for the feedback, the wife now would like to see at E90s as they cost around the same. Time to trawl car yard tomorrow for a suitable one.

the hatch back is a versatile shape though....you can get a washing machine in the hatch with the seats down!

How true! We can almost load anything at the back of the Compact.

Strangely enough 2005/6 320i cost around the same as 2004 118i, don't know why. Not looking for diesel as we won't be doing the mileage to justify the additional purchase cost (as they are even more rarer).

Hi just my view point the vehicle is 7 years old has done 98,000km and they are asking 17,000 for it with out going any further I would say it is at least 2000 over priced in the current market situation add in the current problem and any other defects found or not by a pre- purchase inspection. Further to that the colour, interior finish and other personal choice items then one could start to form an idea of what one would be prepared to pay. This may seem harsh but don't get carried away because it is a BMW it is only a item for sale which has to fill your needs and wish's you are exchanging cold hard cash for it.
