polley 916 Report post Posted August 10, 2012 is there anything else out there available for coating exhaust manfiolds, turbos etc to keep heat in? I looked at the hpc coatings, and they are pretty expensive. I want to stay away from heat wrap though. How durable are the coatings, ie do they chip off easily or will they take a beating? pretty sure you could cook a steak on my bonnet at times. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

JiB 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) I would definitely recommend hpc, we had egt's between 950-1000degC with the exhaust right next to a painted surface and it did admirably. IIRC, IR gun on the external surface read around 600+? We were really impressed. The problem is, I don't think it likes very big temperature gradients, ie water splashes when hot, etc. It was very durable otherwise, did fail when we had to do weld repairs on it, but that's to be expected.
