High Stop Brake light?

Recommended Posts

Quick question.

Does anyone know the rules on when a car needs a high stop fitted?

My car is a 1990 and appears to have never had one fitted but just failed a WOF on it.

Can anyone tell me weather its mandatory on vehicles first registered in 1990 or manufactured in 1990? Ie: my car was manufactured in 1989 but registered in 1990 so is it exempt? Seems funny it has never had one and always passed on it?

What I found online:"If a passenger car (class MA) was first registered in NZ after 1/1/1990 it has to have one fitted." So technically the WOF man is right. But does seem a bit tough haha.

Also found this, look at section 4.3 I couldn't be arsed reading it this early in the morn haha.

Thanks for that. Was just making sure, seemed funny it had never been fitted with one and passed all these years!

Weekend project.
