camera doctor 25 Report post Posted January 13, 2013 Apparently this is NOT a hoax Homeland Security Warning Just go into you Add/Remove programs and remove all copies of Java Then go to www.java.com and click on the 'Do I have Java' link to make sure it is gone. I know of freinds in the USA who have been effected. You have been warned

Allanw 1071 Report post Posted January 14, 2013 Oh sh*t... Someone just started up my calculator... Who wrote that story??? Wouldn't you try to format the drive or steal some bank account logins to show how much of a threat it was??? I mean it might have been nearly as dangerous as Windows
M5V8 337 Report post Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) I have McAfee, Norton, AVG, Avast, Aaaaaannnddd Zone Alarm! can you even access the internet? let alone get your PC to boot with all that? chances of being compromised is low. Just ensure you have java set to auto update and you will get any security patches when available. All NZ banks have a form of online guarantee anyway. Actual risk for loss to you from this is remote at best. I'm not uninstalling java. Like anything just ensuring it's upto date is enough. Too much requires java these days. Homeland security has again, gone off the deep end with warnings to bolster it's image. Edited January 14, 2013 by M5V8
