deeveus 81 Report post Posted January 21, 2013 Howdy, got an issue with the fan on my E46, it flutters (revs up and down) and sometimes wont work for several kms, not handy on a gravel road with windows up and 30 degrees outside! Price for part and how easy to install or could it be something else?
*Glenn* 855 Report post Posted January 21, 2013 Sounds like the final stage resister... best get it checked... not an easy DIY
Greg111 13 Report post Posted January 21, 2013 Yep as Glenn said, fan speed resistor. Very common on E46 and E39.
deeveus 81 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 Cheers guys, I'm kinda getting sick of handing over cash for this car at the moment so is the resistor an easy replacement? I've got an axe and some hammers in the garage...

Greg111 13 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 E46 ones are female front bums to access. We have a special tool that makes it slightly easier. I recommend handing over cash for this ones.
deeveus 81 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 Legend, who would have the part best to go new or 2nd hand or?
*Glenn* 855 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 Always new with these.... you'll know why when you try to do it... you don't like doing them twice
deeveus 81 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 Only available through a dealer or are they available cheaper elsewhere?
Greg111 13 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 They are quite expensive through BMW, don't know whether they are avaliable aftermarket? Could try Milland on TM.
