JesseRaymond 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2013 I recently had the unfortunate event of snapping my car key in the lock, I have a spare key but the remainder is still stuck in there. In the mean time i am using the boot to unlock the car (which gets alot of funny looks :/) Has anyone had the same problem ? I talked to accurate lock smiths and they charge $100 an hour and said its quite a specialist job. Before forking out to get the key removed i'd just like to hear your opinions. Is there someway i could get it out myself ? Cheers,
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted February 19, 2013 I had this happen once and just had to buy a new key and the guy came out to my car and pulled it out for free, took him like 5 minutes with some miniature pliers and tools.
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted February 19, 2013 1 x paper clip 1 x super glue 1 x steady hand Straighten paper clip Put the smallest amount of super glue on the end of the paperclip taking extra careful attention not to get it on the lock barrel. touch the paper clip on the end of the broken key blade and wait for it to dry. Pull carefully. If it doesnt work, try bending the paperclip 90 degrees so you have a little more surface area to glue .. again dont glue the key in the barrel!
