I was curious - how much have you spent on servicing your manual E30's, just wanting to compare costs with driving an auto.

Maintenance on a manual seems so much higher than on a auto.

$70 for a new master cylinder, $30 or so for some gearbox oil. I've had my E30 for 2 and half years. Only time its going to be more expensive is if you have clutch problems. Hydraulic problems are common but they are pretty cheap and easy to fix. Otherwise both auto and manual tranny's seem pretty bulletproof.

How often are people changing the diff and gearbox oil?

Stick in the synthetic redline mtl and you wont have to worry about redoing it for a very very very long time

gboxes apparently can run forever as long as they have oil in them.....doesnt matter if its black and filth.

LSD oil seems to stay good for a while, even if raped. mine was good as new so i didnt bother replacing (space of 3 months or so)

$ amount, 1 bottle of redline mtl = $35

gbox takes one bottle

diff takes one bottle

1 service to last 100k kms = $70

Earlier this year I spent $700 for a gearbox overhaul/rebuild (as well as a second hand gearbox I bought from Petone for $200), due to a knackered selector shaft. Although there was actually nothing wrong with the box, the knackered shaft was chewing seals, and therefore I always had an annoying minor leak.

Apart from that, a new clutch kit a few months ago (about $400).

As part of the gearbox overhaul/rebuild I had good quality fully synthetic fluid put in, I don't plan on changing it for a long time.

Cheers

Grant
