joel5425 3 Report post Posted September 3, 2013 time for a new bmw to play around with and am looking at e34's because I like cars which are abit bigger and not so many people tend to play around with them so am wanting to know if they have any major problems? not worried about engines etc but more electrical, interior etc
Phil-540i 166 Report post Posted September 3, 2013 Hi there I think they're a great car really, & fairly good value for money overall - I tend to be a bit biased though....... Heres a link you might find useful on what might be reasonably expected once $$ have changed hands.... http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....c=45749&hl= Cheers. Michael. 2313 Report post Posted September 3, 2013 Age is probably the biggest issue with these cars, otherwise I think they are hard to fault.
kiwi535 538 Report post Posted September 3, 2013 they have quite a complex electrcal system electric windows electric locking, the heater will probably be electrical controlled, maybe electric seats ,electirc sunroof The problems you will have will probably be electrical, none are major. The 535s will eventually blow the headgasket, big alloy head on a iron block. But they are a fantastic car for little money.THe best e34 you could find will probably be cheaper than a e30
Eagle 1661 Report post Posted September 3, 2013 E34 are electrics are pretty basic compared to newer 5 series etc and in my experience are very reliable. The heater resistor seems to be the most common thing that needs to be replaced as the average owner is usually doesn't when it fails. Interiors are good quality, only problems that can happen are the usual headlining sagging & sometimes the door card trim coming unglued
jonesrp 63 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 I had a 535i and did 60000 km in 4 years. It was hard on gas and hard on brakes. No other issues apart from the odd leak here and there. It was ex Japan and spent time at Miles Continental as a company car. Fantastic car, I was dumb enough to sell it at Turners though and someone got a bargain..
