Best Manual Transmission oil for E36 M3

What is the best manual transmission oil for my E36 M3?

There seems to be pretty varied opinions on this. I just did mine with Redline MTL. You can also apparently use Redline D4 ATF. I've heard mixed reports from virtually everything. People seem to agree the manufacturers recommendation has been pretty much surpassed within the last 20 years.

After the change, my box seems to be great synchro is silent (far more than it was before) and shifts are smooth and fast. I'd recommend Redline.

Is yours a 5 or 6 speed? The 5s seem to take a mtf where as the 6 takes atf. All depends on the sticker on the box. I've got redline d4 atf in mine and it feels alot better from the royal purple that was in it.

Mine is a five speed. Probably takes a bit of trial and error. I've heard people using MTF in the ATF stickered transmissions and having no trouble, so its a hard one for sure.
