Both of these cad cause the vanes to rub on the cold side housing causing the whine. However, If there's whooshing with it, I'd suspect normal turbo whine, with one of the intercooler hoses failing under boost. I've had this before in a Subaru. This is what I'm leaning towards..there is still the same old turbo whine noticeable, it is just overshadowed by the whooshing.
