BMW Tools

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Does anyone know where to get BMW Service tools? I'm after a few specific things, at the moment I'm after the fan clutch securing tool. Anyone know someone who will actually sell them?

might pay to get ahold of Paul aka Vonripsnorter, he could probably point you in the right direction.

I've never used the lock tool to get the fan off. The way I do it is to make sure the fanbelt is hell tight, put the car in gear to prevent any chance of the motor turning over.

My 32mm spanner is quite long and pretty sturdy, sticks clear of the fan by a few inches. Just hold it in the tension position and shock it with a normal type claw hammer. Max 6 blows and it comes off (normally).

Just remember that the thread is a left hand one so you shock it off in the direction of the passenger side of the car. Being left hand it is also self tightening so you don't have to tighten it too much when assembling.

Tried that then, broke some bits :( lol

The plastic on the fan shroud is so brittle that the clip the expansion rivit goes into broke off lol.

Maybe I shoud investigate an electric fan kit.

Edit -ts still stuck on there lol

The most I've seen for a fully built non vanos M50 was a reliable 754hp

regardless - you'd need to drop a huge amount of money into one to get that power.

Getting another 220 hp from a motor is never "easy".

Never said it was going to be easy, but with that engine its not overly hard either to get up to 400

i think the luxury tool kit is pretty much the same as the normal one, just with a few more spanners and stuff
