M5V8 337 Report post Posted February 1, 2014 so the occasional stall is still apparent. (only when I slow down, clutch in, after the car is warm. And only occasionally) Peake code reader shows code 16 & 63 Which if I read it right is coil cyl #7 (is 63 control unit self test) What I changed (new) with OEM parts chasing this fault. Pre cat 02 sensors (both) MAF units (both) Spark plugs My question is. Have I read the unit right? should I replace coil #7? Car runs fine (awesome infact) in all other ways. Allanw 1071 Report post Posted February 1, 2014 I wouldn't have thought a single coil would cause a stall. Are the codes on your reader Hex, or decimal? If you've read them off the Hex list, they'd be different to the decimal list: Decimal 16 and 63 are supposedly "Crankshaft Sensor" and "Secondary Air Switching Valve", both of which would be far more liekly to be related to the stall. Are there any members near you with INPA, the BMW software? It will give the BMW specific code/description, but also how often the code occurs, and what the engine was doing at the time (RPM, Temp etc)
M5V8 337 Report post Posted February 1, 2014 Cheers Alan. Anyone in the wtgn region that can assist? Hex or decimal - ahh not sure. I have the R5/FCX 3 tool from Peake Research.?
_ethrty-Andy_ 2132 Report post Posted February 1, 2014 i use this resource, work out what DME/ECU you have at the top of the page, and go to the appropriate section. http://endtuning.com/bmwcodes.html looks like your engine uses the MSS52 version which is shortcut link below. http://endtuning.com/bmwcodes.html#MSS52 So i agree with Allan based on that
yng_750 247 Report post Posted February 1, 2014 if you cant get to someone with the proper software you could try swapping two coils and seeing if the error code moves. Not the ideal way of dojng things though but yea the other codes sound more likely to cause issues. I can supply new coils for $135 each incl gst.
