JaseNZ 53 Report post Posted February 15, 2014 We finally got our place renovated (thanks eqc after 3 years) and have just moved back in. The place is amazing and is so nice to be back in an almost new house. The problem is that bark has been laid all around the garden and I am pretty sure the bark just come from a sawmill somewhere. There seems to be thousands and thousands of little mite like things that have started coming out of the bark, its been about 3 weeks and only just noticed it. Cats are coming in covered in them as they are laying in the bark. Not really sure how to tackle getting rid of them. Not really sure what they are either (to small to try and take a picture of). Here is a picture of the type of bark. Have sprayed everything with something picked up from the warehouse that had pyrethrum in it but has not seemed to make any difference. anybody got any ideas at all on how to tackle this. Gaz 1060 Report post Posted February 15, 2014 Interesting. We have similar issue with bugs and it is the birds making a mess of the bark all over our path. No idea how to fix it though sorry. Our bark is just the stuff from Bunnings
yng_750 247 Report post Posted February 15, 2014 hmmm not sure, possibly chuck some bark in a sealed bag and catch some and take to garden center. they know heaps if not MFAT are always happy to help. most creatures like that turn out to be aphids or similar. soapy water gets them so possibly a garden sprayer warm water and biodegradable dish washing liquid. wont harm the cats any. JaseNZ 53 Report post Posted February 15, 2014 Took a vid of it you can see them scurry about but hard to make out (view full screen). Good idea about baging some bark up with bugs and taking it to garden center, might do that tomorrow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlvMdq5v6ZA&feature=youtu.be

Phil-540i 166 Report post Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) I think ya should be sending your cats, (preferably fast post stamps rather than snail mail), through to Gareth - 2 birds one stone sorta thing ae.............then enter into a scorched earth type program with a really goooood insecticide mixed up a bit stronger than the directions indicate (because, as we know, directons / instructions are only a rough guide anyway, & anythink worth doing is worth a decent nudge.......) Few brown Fanta's while you're doing it, & she'll be the ducks nuts within no time............. Edited February 15, 2014 by Blue-540i
