This E9 was delivered new to Col Crawford BMW, Sydney, with dealer-fit options of a radio, aerial and air conditioning. In the early 90s it was purchased by BMW Australia as a "heritage" display car for its new factory showroom in Rushcutters Bay. BMW gave the car a cosmetic refurbishment and a new 3.3 litre M30 engine, giving it more power and reliability; a popular upgrade.
I bought the car in 1999 and moved (with it) to NZ in 2006. It's a second car, driven on weekends and will happily cruise at highway speeds all day. It accelerates eagerly up to 100mph, braking is strong, steering direct and overall the car feels surprisingly modern and nimble.
During my ownership the car has been serviced every 5000 miles or 12 months by specialists, most recently by Fixations in Jan 2014. It's required no maintenance other than routine servicing and consumables and has been 100% reliable. Bilstein HDs were installed with new sway bars, springs and bushes to improve handling and lower the car slightly (the stock ride height is a little too high for my liking). It also has a leather BMW Motorsport steering wheel and the stereo is an 80s BMW Eurovox (it's rubbish, but I have a period Becker Mexico, which is included with the car).
People who know these cars know they rust. It’s a big weakness and one reason why there are not many around. Repairs are expensive, but there are common trouble-spots and I’ve had them addressed: the rockers and floors have been replaced with new metal and the spare wheel well patched and repaired (over $20k spent with photos available). The fenders, shock towers and wheel wells were all checked and good. There is one small rust bubble on the passenger side front guard that is worth pointing out.
The car has a full toolkit, original delivery books and receipts from the last 15 years. It is not a show car by any means; it’s 40 years old and has been used and enjoyed. I thought I would never sell this car, but have a boyhood dream to own a 911 and it’s an itch that needs to be scratched.

Beautiful car. Better be a bloody good Super Beetle you are replacing it with.

You better keep the buyers contact details for when you decide you want the E9 back. :)
