Intrests for US M3 cams for M52 328i?

Recommended Posts

sent you a message, I might part with the software and sell it seperate for the right price..just trying to get some of my money back as it was an impulse buy, I also had to pay nz customs. trust me you are getting a deal.

drop me a line if anybody is intrested, give me your offers, maybe I will list it here or on trademe. I am sure I'll find someone there willing to spend the asking price or clsoe.

Aren't these cams nearly identical in spec to the M50B25NV intake & M54B30 intake cams? Or have I got my wires crossed here?

really trying to get back some of my money even at 1K. :(

but I might then part with the software for the right price, send me your offers. thanks

pretty sure I did reaserch on those, I think it was a slightly different route some people used them on building a strokers. too much trouble.

The m3 cams are the better option overall, ideally everybody in US just picks these intake and exhaust cams off the US spec M3's and simply swap them in and out with their m52, do the software and done.

I'm all curious now, will have to delve deeper into this one! :) Am quite interested to see what the shark software would do for a Euro spec engine, my understanding was the americans got a different tune to ROW courtesy of crippling emissions standards. Again, more research required!! :) Unless those with the dark knowledge would like to chime in and save me wasting another 40 hours of my life?

What you are looking into is I think called a stroker motor where they achive similar results to a S50B32. I havent done enough reading but there are a few topics floating online, but thats a lot more involved, taking the whole motor out, taking off heads, pistons, easily a lot more then just the 40 hours of your life reading. I wanted something simple so got these, its popular in north america, But I am happy with my car as it is.

Just take the cams man, and get a tune from the botany shop for better results. I'll cut down the price a bit and try to sell the software elsewhere or count my losses. The cams fit on M50 too but not a direct swap without a few more bits, I think the carriers and lfters are a bit diffrent in M50 but I may be able to get them from my contact in US.

Have already thoroughly researched the M50B30 stroker (essentially the USS50B30) and decided against it on the basis that it seemed a great deal of unnecessary work for the same results as using M50B25NV cams & intake (with remapped DME) on an otherwise perfectly good M54B30. My point of interest is whether there is a difference in engine tune between US and Euro specced M50s. I have heard anecdotal evidence suggesting the Shark software is pointless on a Euro spec M50, due to less stringent emissions standards; hence my comment that further research would be required! In this instance I would have anticipated that best results would be gained by using the US cams with a dyno based DME remap. However I would love to see someone use these cams with the Shark software and observe the results. Apologies if my logic appears convoluted, but it makes sense to me :)

makes perfect sense :) I also agree best results would be to take it down to a shop and have it remapped based on the dyno. there's a good shop in auckland , its called Hi Velocity - the BMW Performance Specialist web address - www.hivelocity.co.nz - the guy has a good set of everything bmw remaps, he will set it up in no time and would be better then the shark software. With these cams the results I have seen with a few other bolt ons as M50 manifold, cai and exhaust are just as much as the US S52B30 M3. Which I believe produced around 250HP at the crank and ran similar 0 - 60 time to the EU spec S50B32.(dont quote me on the last bit)

I think I will let go of just the cams minus the software. I sent out a few PM's they are on the fence. let me know if anybody wants them. I can bring them to auckland next month or someone I know is going down there this week end.

Will let the cams go, can deliver to auckland next month or ship at your expense. Just trying to get back what I spent. not making a profit here(have receipts too aswell as what I paid for the NZ customs to release them). let me know if you guys are keen. this is money better spent then headers or an exhaust.

Havent seen much intrest here or on trademe, decided if nobody takes them by the end of next week, then instead of taking the loss I might just install and use them myself one weekend. :)

and once tuned it should make nice power.

Dont shoot the messenger. but yea thats what everything I read said, and its pretty much dyno proven too in most of the yank and pom forums.

They do this cam swap on their cars combined with the m50 manifold, a cold air intake and the car makes good numbers, with few more mods as a full exhaust, headers and a proper tune (they use some shark software) the 328i makes more than that 220 RWHP's with little work. again thats what it says everywhere I have been reading for the past year.

This was a helpful topic, I read all 39 pages there..good info..

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?544874-Official-M50-Manifold-Swap-Thread

8. CAMS!!! This is a 1,2 punch with the Manifold. M3 cams can easily add 15-20 hp to your properly tuned 2.8L Bimmer. Schrick cams can make even more power,.... Here's a Dyno of what our 'lil 2.8's can do with these mods and Correct software(Eurosport Dyno). Pretty Impressive I think!!

anyway, close the topic..I was just trying to get back what I spent since I didnt feel the need for more power...however I didn't really find much intrest so instead of taking the loss I decided to use them myself after a couple of weeks. If anybody wants them they can PM me...
