APT 195 Report post Posted April 22, 2014 Going to change my gearbox fluid in the near future, is 75w80 the correct grade for this gearbox ?
Madhatter 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2014 Yeah, 75/80 or 75/90 is fine, it's pretty much an SAE80 gear oil. Just make sure what ever oil you use carries a GL-4 api rating as it needs to be an extreme pressure gear oil. Can run GL-5 rated oils ONLY if they clearly state they contain inhibitors that prevent corrosion to non ferrous parts (like the brass and bronze bits used inside these gearboxes). _Matt_ 42 Report post Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) I have castrol vmx80 in my getrag 260 and 75-90 in my LSD. Shifts and drives great. Edited April 27, 2014 by _Matt_
Kepes 231 Report post Posted April 29, 2014 I put Redline MTL is my getrag 260 recently and it really smoothed my shifts when warm. Pretty expensive though...
Navin 180 Report post Posted April 29, 2014 Yeah, used Redline MTL 75w80 too in my old E30. Shifts became noticeably smoother. If you can get it at trade price from bnt it's not bad at all
