Recommended Posts

hi all

im wanting to tap into the wealth of knowledge that is bimmersport.

a friend has been given a this car by family member and no one can get it to run.

so im wanting you all to start giving me the big check list to tick off to see if it will go.

the car is a 1988 e34 525 manual .m20b25 . it was running , engine died , so a year ago it had another (running motor)put in and has never ran.

it turns over and everything else works........but no spark or fuel.

cheers all

dan

go to the engine bay, locate the fuel rail, take the hose off, and then turn the car over (be prepared to catch fuel).

if no fuel comes out, try pulling out your fuel pump and checking it works

for spark, is it dizzy or coil pack or what? If it is EFI, then I would look to the ECU and/or wiring. sometimes even though the motor may look the same, it may run different electronics and connections.

It's an M20... so it's got a distributor and yes it's fuel injected.

M20 e34's were all motronic 1.3, some e30's had early motronic (1.1) but you could swap all the sensors and sh*t over to the next motor which any smart person would do.

I'd start googling "m20 not starting" heaps of threads and heaps of advice...

Check they haven't accidentally swapped the crank position sensor plug with the sequence sensor plug
