Ahmedsinc 414 Report post Posted June 20, 2014 Really long shot here............. but does anyone have an invite code OR a user account they would be kind enough to let me use? Please? I have a lot of things I want to learn about DIS etc that I'm too chicken to muck around with myself in case I inadvertently brick my DMEs. I solemnly promise not to post under someone elses account and make them look dumb. Optimistic TIA
M3_Power 636 Report post Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Why? Majority of the stuff in there are like 10 years old already ... DIS and how to set one up is now so well known you don't need to visit that website. Heck I can set one up blind folded and on a fast computer in about 10 minutes or less. What do you want to know, I am 200% certain I can answer everything you need to know - and much much more accurately than any other "how-to" write up there is out there (including the two I wrote - which in hindsight, I've now discovered errors with). I've read every single one of them and know them back to front and I can tell you there's not one out there that's 100% accurate in terms of setting one up correctly (including the one wrote by a m3cutters member - perhaps the best one available but still has various errors in its methodology in setting one up correctly). You can even now create a version with v44 coding with v57 diagnostics, has all the TIS files and have Rolls Royces and Mini all activated - I've made one myself and tested it thoroughly and it works perfect. I've even figured out how to install Ken Fister's easydis Natively on a T30 IBM and run a separate laptop with an emulated diagnostic head (which you don't need on Fisters translators) so you don't need to buy a China clone ... Or if you want ... the latest ISTA Rheingold is pretty well sussed now and works almost perfectly and can be installed on just about any duo-core machine with about 3GB ram. The options are endless. And you can't brick your DME with DIS, it's a diagnostic tool ... You can however with WINKFP, but there are factory recovery tools in toolsets that can recover an incorrect flash ... or worse case scenario there are members on this board now with EPROM flashers that can recover it and reset flash counters now. Allanw 1071 Report post Posted June 21, 2014 Basically, pissing about with anything in the standard INPA/NCS/DIS setups you buy on ebay etc, aren't going to do anything major. I did it all by trial and error, and worst case, you code the whole car in NCS back to factory and start fiddling again. I'm assuming you want to fiddle with the E39, coz the E36 is really boring as far as nerd/geek types are concerned There's a bunch of tutorials on US forums, after reading a few, and running it up on your car, you start to feel pretty comfortable. I'm a geek, but I've changed the LCM in our car to an E53 one, changed the VIN and mileage to match the car, altered settings to stop bulb warnings (LED angeleye bulbs etc), altered the litres of fuel used before the service is required, fitted a brand new ABS module and coded it etc. I didn't know how to do any of it a few years back, and I haven't destroyed anything (Yet... I haven't used WINKFP, but will need to if I have to fit a 3.0 in place of the 2.5 ). I don't even use a backup power supply... though I do hook up the 2A trickle charger... because the battery in 11 years old The basic stuff as far as cool settings go, can be done in either BMW Scanner (another program and cable), or using the BMW software, in NCSExpert. There is a program someone made called NCSDummy - it makes setting changing easy, and is a good place to start. I'd start to get lost if I was doing anything really heavy, but the software only lets you do stuff that's pretty safe. The heavy stuff involves serious reprogramming, where the usual software just allows you to alter parameters or settings.

Thanks Tom. For the meantime I'm trying to find a users guide, written in Idiot English, on how to use DIS v57 & NCSExpert. For the most part I just want to know how to scan the car correctly & reset fault codes, reset service lights & intervals etc on both the E36 & E39. Once I build confidence there I have an MS43 M54B30 DME I'd like to practice on to see if I can remove ASC & EWS from. And I'd also like to know if it's possible to copy the fuel map from one DME and write to another. All of which is way above my comprehension level at this point in time, hence the desire to find a numbskull-friendly guide. If such a thing exists
M3_Power 636 Report post Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Thanks Tom. For the meantime I'm trying to find a users guide, written in Idiot English, on how to use DIS v57 & NCSExpert. All of which is way above my comprehension level at this point in time, hence the desire to find a numbskull-friendly guide. If such a thing exists There are no user guides out there for DIS ... only a training manual and even that's pretty useless. NCSExpert I would suggest downloading the document from NCSdummy or one of the user guides from the E90 crowd or the R56 Mini (namotoring.com) as those cars tend to have the largest segment of owners using NCS. With DIS, just play with it as much as you can - you can't do any damage really with it, other than reset a few adaptations and delete codes - it is fairly idiot proof, and each command and functions fairly intuitive and basically the service functions are all step by step guided (compared to ISTA or Rheingold in my opinion). As for NCS Expert (provided you have loaded all the correct files in the correct place), that's also fairly idiot proof in my opinion and if you screw up you can always just code an empty FSW_PSW file and it'll basically reset back to original Vehicle Order setup. There's a document out there that teaches how to add and delete VO, but again that's fairly easy to do and plenty of guides online.
