318is 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 What about getting it re surfaced if you can't locate one? What finish is the shaft?
nz320i 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 would it be worth it though, i thought it may be cheaper just to replace it as the oil seals are gone in it, i think the shaft would be stainless? and aluminium casing? its the aluminium thats gone.. 318is 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 Doing it yourself almost always works out cheaper, if you do it properly that is. For example, if I send out a ram to be recoed to a hydraulic specialist shop, it's always about $300 - $350-00. If I go to Seal Imports and get the seals, strip clean and reassemble it myself, it costs me about $40-00 in parts. Big differance eh. Seal Imports don't to rotary seals come to think of it, just power seals and o-rings. Saeco or precision bearings might be a better bet. There are metal sprayers out there that can rebuild almost anything for a very decent price. A second hand one complete will be less hassle -- especially if the shaft is completly knackered, needs rebuilding and re croming. Price it all up and go from there.
