alisterh 26 Report post Posted December 10, 2014 Hi I have a problem when starting my m40 318i when it is hot outside. It only seems to happen if I park the car in direct sunlight on a hot day. All the lights will come on on the dash as normal but the car just wont crank. I can start the car using the diagnostic port so it appears that the battery and starter motor are fine. I am thinking it could be a problem with the ignition switch but I really have no idea. Thanks for any help
alisterh 26 Report post Posted December 21, 2014 Turns out the ignition switch was the problem. The previous owner has installed the wrong type of switch which didn't clip onto the back of the barrel properly. They just used hot glue to attach it so when the interior got hot the switch just flexed.
