eliongater 718 Report post Posted July 19, 2015 Hi everyone. Looking at buying a 525e in the middle of a manual swap and just wanted to check if it would need a cert or some special mention in insurance? I believe a bracket needs to be welded on for the shift linkage. thanks
CamB 48 Report post Posted July 19, 2015 Shouldn't need a cert if it uses all unmodified factory parts. Call your insurance company?
_ethrty-Andy_ 2132 Report post Posted July 19, 2015 as above, no need for cert if using OE parts, of course you will need to tell your insurance company. make sure its clear you describe it as automatic failure and swap to manual for availability reasons, rather than swapping it for performance reasons. eliongater 718 Report post Posted July 20, 2015 Thanks guys. That's what I thought. I just wanted to double check. I did read the LVVTA website and it looks like it's ok if it's all OEM parts. This one is actually being done for availability, the guy couldn't find an auto box (no idea how that is possible with all the people wanting to do manual swaps on m20s).
