dimsim 2 Report post Posted August 30, 2015 From what I can tell there are two ways of resetting the Service indicator on the E46. One way for OBCD1 (short pin 7 & 19 for three seconds) and another for OBCD2 (hold down the trip counter, turn key to position one and wait for reset to flash etc) The OBCD2 way doesnt work for me as I only get the test function, never get a reset so ill assume as my 328i is an early one 1998 that I must have OBCD1 so shorting pins 7 & 19 for 3 or 9 seconds should work. Unfortunately neither work. Am well used to resetting E30 indicators by shorting pins on the diagnostic plug so cant fathom what's wrong. I also tested pin 19 with a multimeter and that is definitely earthed ok so this process should work. The oil service light just stays at -4750km Any ideas? Thanks

B.M.W Ltd 950 Report post Posted August 30, 2015 (edited) Would you mind elaborating on that? You need a scan tool to reset it..... it's not the same system as the USA vehicles your reading about. Edited August 30, 2015 by B.M.W Ltd
Mark 178 Report post Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) You can do it the second way you described. I did it on my E46 touring recently. Although mine is a year 2000. Edited August 31, 2015 by _Mark_

dimsim 2 Report post Posted July 17, 2016 Ended up buying san iCarsoft i910-II. Does pretty much everything, reads/resets trouble codes, reset the service light/airbag/light etc, provide live engine data etc. Was about $200 from ebay.
