M3_Power 636 Report post Posted December 24, 2015 ^Have you done bearings Tom? At what Kms would you recommend it? No haven't done mine as I've only done 30k km. As for recommendation, I would say probably nearing the 80-100kkm mark to be safe, but it can depend on how the car was treated.
MISS BM 712 Report post Posted December 30, 2015 Rod bearing issue on the s54 motor was never caused by oil, it was always a manufacturing tolerance issue and oil pump issue. Oil is oil ... If it is the right working range then it'll be fine. Big end bearings are a maintenance item anyway. Like Josh said, I'd be more worried about cams and cam followers snd I might add headgasket. Those seem to fail at a much much higher rate than big end bearings, especially if driven hard. I was personally referring to S65 and S85 engines of whom I know two of personally who have now gone and had SN oil before hand. But speaking to the Taylor Automotive guys, it's a pick up with the oil from sump.. Can't remember now. For the sake of $5 for me, I'm going to stick with TWS. Plus it gets delivered to work. Bonus service.
