DR1FTMONKEY 15 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 Hey team, have had a search around here and google in general but as is often the case theres different opinions everywhere and often the threads arent updated when the issue is resolved. My 01 330ci started showing the ABS and ASC lights yesterday (no handbrake light). I believe this generally indicates a front wheel speed sensor fault? I understand that the issue is sometimes the ABS module having issues due to the heat in the engine bay. Wondering if there are any recommendations on where to pick up speed sensors at a reasonable price so I can hope that resolves the issue (anyone against ebay ones from experience).. and if this doesnt solve the issue, any recommendations of places to go in CHCH who can diagnose it properly. Jeff Gray obviously, but perhaps there are alternatives? Does anyone have experience of replacing the sensors actually resolving the issue? Appreciate any insight, Cheers
Young Thrash Driver 1020 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 Get the car scanned by someone with a decent scanner, not just OBD2. Replacing sensors is likely a wild goose chase, be prepared to replace ABS module and possibly wheel sensors. I got wheel sensors recently through FCPEuro, genuine parts much cheaper than the dealer. There is a helpful recent-ish thread on this website. Have only heard good things about DCH Motorsport in CHCH but unsure if they have the neccesary software to solve your specific issue. hybrid 1043 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 A direct shadow memory read of the DCS/ACS module will reveal all .. be it a static or sporadic error(s). This will give you some correct direction on where the problem lays. As Kopua says, Generic OBD software wont do it, you really need to use BMW software with the correct lookup tables. Alot of generic tools are developed for the US market, when they see a jap import car they dont know how to deal with the japanase hardware and software variants. DR1FTMONKEY 15 Report post Posted August 18, 2016 Was recommended to go see the guys at Eurorec as they specialise in BMWs and are a Euro Nation club supporter, and I have bought parts for my old E36 from them previously. Had it scanned, was the ASC pump needing replacement. Sourced a used part from them and had it fitted. Sounds as though they cost an arm a leg at the dealer, the wheel speed sensors alone were quoted at about $260 each for genuine BMW from Jeff Gray. So all dealt with for now, would not have been wise just throw sensors at it (even cheap ebay ones), cheers for the replies guys.
