325_driver 422 Report post Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) E90 n52 Wondering if anyone can help me with a slight rattle sound Ignore the ticking noise, actually quite a quiet engine (it's not that bad it's just cause my phone is right up there) behind the ticking is a very slight rattle. Sound of sounds like a marble in the intake maybe Might be hard to make out behind that ticking background DISA? Really the question is, when a DISA is on the way out, how obvious is it? Like will i be able to hear it rattling with the bonnet down. It sounds pretty quiet atm, but there is a subtle rattle in there, and i'm just paranoid after all this work i've done to it. Or does the DISA make a slight rattle as the flap moves around in there. Cheers Edited September 2, 2019 by 325_driver
Eagle 1662 Report post Posted September 2, 2019 Cant hear anything tbh but you tried running with the the DISA unplugged
325_driver 422 Report post Posted September 2, 2019 Yeah. I unplugged the front DISA Same noise. Cant get to the rear one. To be honest if you cant hearing anything it's probably not disa. Apparently there are other symptom's with it? Like loss of power and fault codes? Hard to know because I haven't heard other n52 engines running perfect. Eagle 1662 Report post Posted September 2, 2019 Ive only had issues with M43 ones myself. One of them threw a lean code and rattled and both had split diaphragms which gave a little idle surge and some loss of performance. I only replaced my M54 one because of a vaccum leak at the seal Haven't hear many N52 running good or bad tbh.
325_driver 422 Report post Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) @Eagle yeah they fail due to oil getting into the electronic board i.e. the failed CCV was pumping oil through my intake, so plausible Any sound now has me super paranoid Not throwing any codes or any power loss, so it might be nothing I guess i'll just leave it and see if it develops. I would imagine the rattle would be more noticeable if the pin was about to come out Edited September 2, 2019 by 325_driver
Eagle 1662 Report post Posted September 2, 2019 Doesn't appear to take much for the flap develop some play causing a rattle, but the pin coming out would take a fair bit of wear. Its a worse case horror story imo and would think it would be very loud leading up to it.
