Hi all -

If you are building an e30 race series car - contact me. Bimmersport has arranged a great price on pretty much complete building of an e30 series car through one of the best cage designers/fabricators in Auckland.

You would be looking at:

The cage requirement for the e30 series + homologation costs (Cage made of the standard roll cage steel - can do chromology - but there is not much weight benefit with such a small cage - but hey every bit of extra stiffness can help)

Seat

Harness

All for an extremely reasonable price. The price is not firmly fixed yet as the roll cage spec hasn't been decided for the series. Hopefully this will be resolved next week at the AGM.

Note all parts are of FIA homologation - not just minimum MANZ requirement.

The seat is Racetech 1000 (which has just got FIA homologation) - I use it in my car.

TRS belts - most likely 4 point for the basic setup.

I have seen his work on many cars at the track. Very impressive and I am very happy with the $2900 approx quote. He will get a bit of work out of it for sure. Has he given any thought to becoming the “spec“ builder for the class.

Yes - he will be at the AGM and e30 spec meeting next Thursday.

Aside from losing rear seats - the side intrusion beams are quite low.

Naturally wearing a race harness everyday would grow thin.

Yes - however i'd go for a much more extensive cage for Targa.

Andrew, where would you get the specs for an E30 series car, is there anywhere on the www where you can download the requirements? I am interested in getting into this with some family, and would like to know if this series is one where you could start fairly basic, and improve the car as your own ability improved? Is it a series where someone with no race experience could drive and have some fun, and learn to race?

There was a copy of the regs in the last Dixi magazine.

For a better idea, I'd show up at the BMWCC AGM at BMW Mt Wellington this Thursday as the race series will be a topic of discussion.

But, yes you will be able to start a racing career in this series.

What's the ideal car to get for this series? Do you go the wreck way, and build everything up, or are you wiser to get a good one to start, and get everything you basically need at the one time, maybe not so much hard work? What kind of budget will you need to get going? Thanks.

Bascially start with the nicest car you can afford.. perhaps a 318i for around 3 grand (tops) - 3 k on cage and motorsport releated stuff. Figure another 4 grand for suspension, brakes, tyres + what ever wheels you want to use. I'd walk into the season (including the building cost of car) with 15k to be safe.

Come to the meeting at BMW NZ on Thursday night..and have a chat if you want.

Don't forget the club AGM this week to be held at BMW Group NZ, Pacific Rise, Mt Wellington, Auckland on Thursday 25th May, 2006 at 7.00pm.

After the AGM light refreshments will be served and there will be some new BMW vehicles for inspection.  You will also be able to enjoy a video on the big screen of Georg Plasa in his Formula 1 Judd V8 Powered M3 GTR in the European Hill Climb championship.

There will be a chance to talk about the forthcoming E30 race series too (as detailed in the last issue of DIXI) and all interested parties should be there for a question and answer session.

Thanks, facelift, or pre, does it make a lot of difference?

Also, 2 or 4 door, which is best, much diff in handling, body stiffness etc?

Id use a Facelift 318 - at this stage the pre-facelift 318 cannot be used.

In terms of stiffness - it is marginal - id use a 2 door purely as they look cooler.

Facelift would be the win for a 320 also - purely for rust issues.
