How to know if your E90 has limited slip or non limited slip Differential?

Recommended Posts

I want to change my differential oil. How to know what type of differential is my car? So that I can use 75w90 or the  80w140?

How will i know if it is sa limited slip or not? Thanks.

It wont as only M3 had them factory fitted. 75w-90 is usual grade but your diff has rubbish bearings with fail very often so thicker grade may be the better option.

So 80w140 instead? I'm planning to add xado for maintenance. Can you overfill it? Penrite says only .8 liter is needed. But forum says 1 liter.

Possibly. Probably best to ring Kayne Barrie Motorsport Ltd and see what he recommends (he rebuilds them).

Once the old oil is sucked out you fill till the oil comes out the fill hole. As long as the car is level you can't really overfill it. Capacity depends on how much old oil you get out but will be around 1L give or take maybe 200ml.

Thank you. Is their a way to know if my differential is under filled it over filled? I measured the oil that I removed and it was 850. So I put 850 but it over flows. I waited till little fluid is going out.  Then, I plugged it with 60nm torque.  I really don,t know if that is correct or not?

I did not jack my car, I just crawled under.

As long as the car is on level surface then that level will be correct.

Its not an exact science. As long as its close to level it will be fine.
