wat is the problem here??

every now and then when i start my bimmer it idles high then very low then high then very low a few times and then dies and then i start it again and its sweet but now if i boot it at around 5000rpm it seems to lean out so bad it sounds like its hitting the limiter but it isnt

could this be fuel starvation, fuel pumpproblem filter problem injector problem or o2 censor

please advise

ALWAYS search the maintenance threads before asking these questions. There's plenty of posts on vacuum leaks and leaning out that you'll get a nice big list of posts to look through first.

Is your car a facelift? Cam wear in M40's is a common problem. As the cam lobes wear down, the valves don't open fully and the engine can't get enough air. Often the engine will sound strained at high revs and won't pull to the rev limiter.

The bad idle could just be that the idle speed is set to low. You might want to adjust it upwards slightly and see if the problem disappears.

now i hear a tapping sound more prominently also a vibration on acceleration and a shudder after it kinda cant rev further around 4500 now thuddered around 3500 at 100 last night im putting my money on gearbox ???i replaced the old gearbox with a second hand one been fine for a month so far

please help
