I understand the crankshaft damper can also be an issue - I replaced this on the E46 320d (M47B20) after it made a horrible knocking noise! Helluva job. That bolt is tight. promo 93 Report post Posted August 27, 2023 (edited) Hi there, I've done about 6 of these. I have timing tools etc. Generally I like to drop the engine and do everything which makes life much easier.
