BMW M325i 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 I recently bought a legitimate 1990 BMW M325i in pretty mint condition. I recently chipped it, removed the catalytic converter, and installed a K&N air filter. The car goes well enough with these mod’s – but boys will be boys and so I am interested in finding out a little more about what I could do to improve performance more so. People have mentioned Shrick Cams etc.... Please offer some feedback/suggestions on what you think here or feel free to suggest some experts I can talk to in NZ? conrod 1 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 If you are going to do a cam change, then schrick make the best cams in the world for these engines bar none! Mind you, they are a bit pricey, and you wil probably need a custom chip written to sort the extra fuelling out. A set of headers is a good mod too for these engines, biggest problem is trying to find a good set- they are quite rare for a RHD. Good luck and let us know how you get on! Gus 5 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 depends what you want to spend, and how much power you want? once you got those goals in mind, its a bit easier to recommend stuff personally, i dont find the m20 N/A awfully tunable (as in bolt on stuff...your not going to get a lot of power) and even the strokers dont seem to make that much power unless you go nuts ($$) could recommend a lotta things, depending what you want! m325i 711 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 (edited) its cam, not cams =). what kind of chip? pics of the car? sad truth is realise the reality. m20 aint really tunable, unless you have stupid money which is better put into a transplant, (if you want big power). thats what the internet geeks say anyway.... mops 4 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 i reckon turbo is the best bet for m20... m20 in na form is not really tunable as stock intake mainfold is pretty damn good, and you are getting towards the limit on 2 valve engine. depending on how much money you are prepared to spend really... i think cheapest power for e30 is m30 conversion.... then m50 and stroked m20 turbo are more expensive, m50 2.8 for nice N/A power and turbo m20 will be good for about 350bhp.. if you do it cheaply (secondhand parts, etc) you might get it all done for $3k for the same amount you might be able to build N/A m20 with maybe 230-250hp. these price estimates assume you do alot of work yourself. If you want a reputable tuner do it for you expect $10k for a start...

drifty325i 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 haha a 230/250hp N/A m20 for 3k id like to see that, with 3k you would be lucky to see 200hp N/A. turbo is the way to go or conversion

Ghost 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 Forget the engine, it is pretty well sorted, have a look at other performance modifications instead such as a lightened flywheel - very very noticable difference in acceleration and a hellofalot of fun That, and a short shift kit, and you'll think you own a different car.
