fabz-69 0 Report post Posted August 20 Hey there, I'm just completing a rebuild on my BMW 2001 330i engine, despite taking every precaution, a couple of the head bolts stripped as I was torquing them down. The build is on hold until I get these sorted. After considerable research on the net, it appears that Time-Serts are the way to go. A new set, including the alignment plate, costs over $1,000. That's daylight robbery! Does anyone have a used Time-Sert set or plate I could buy/borrow to rethread a couple of head bolts? The set part number is: Time-Sert 1090 M10 x 1.5 BMW 3 & 5 Series Head Bolt Thread Kit with Plate. https://www.wiseautotools.com/time-sert-1090-bmw-3-5-series-head-bolt-thread-kit-w-guide-plate/ Much appreciated. Allanw 1082 Report post Posted Saturday at 04:05 AM Look for someone who rents the kits out and see if someone will do international shipping for it. Do ALL the bolt holes, as it's pretty common for them to strip.
M3AN 4199 Report post Posted Sunday at 12:22 AM Are helicoils any use for this application? They're readily available and inexpensive.

Helicoils are definitely an option, however, the feedback from users who used helicoils to solve BMW head bolt issues suggests results are patchy. Feedback regarding Time-Serts is positive. I guess that's precisely why they are the price they are.
