*RJ* 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) Hey guys, I sold the BMW about 3 months ago and have been driving a matt black Honda City since then. Over the weekend I picked up my 1997 Honda Integra Type R. It's come with uber JDM goodies - Buddy Club wheels, Cusco adjustable suspension, Pro 1 headers, full stainless exhaust - all sorts of stuff that I didn't expect to find. Pics are below - have had it certified for the adjustables, alarm installed with some clever tricks to get it started and having it dyno tuned on Thursday - looking forward to seeing what she's putting out. Racing at Meremere on Saturday before going for a nice long drive to the beach house on the Coromandel. Edited September 19, 2006 by *RJ*

ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 how much did you pay just out of curiosity, i like the fact that these cars have so much accessible power, but their handling kinda lets them down, but i guess im just a noob to FWD. Good choice, looks good and has some good mods in there, good luck with your new car!

ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 "but their handling lets them down," Pardon? I test drove one a lil while back, went into a round about and went right around it at about the same speed i would in my E30, put it this way, it didn' t turn. When it got about 3/4's of the way around it, i accelerated to leave the round about as i would in my E30, it just went straight... my E30 would never do that... just my opinion but yea RWD FTW
Yuen 16 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Wow, nice car man. Congrats on the purchase. Did you get it direct from Japan or off someone in NZ? And is the 'R' plate yours because one of the pictures have just a normal plate. If it's 'R' that is sick.
bmwsparkle 3 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 awesome choice dude. Diggin it hard. Lose the coloured wheel studs IMO though.
*RJ* 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Thanks for the comments guys. It's a 1997, the price increase to get a tidy 98spec just wasn't worth it - instead I got a low km (85000kms) 1997 with top shelf parts on it. I paid $11000 for the car itself but then all the shipping, compliance, certification etc ads up afterwards. In the end I've paid about the normal NZ market price but as above it's got low kms, top shelf parts and is straight as an arrow. The handling is fantastic - for example I co-drived for a mate in his ITR race car. The key difference to my car being a lack of interior and a roll cage in his. We came 6th out of 64 cars - the only cars in front of us were 3 Skylines (700-800bhp), an ex Wellington Street race champion Sierra and a Toyota MRS. It shows the lightweight cars really can handle well and keep up with the big guns. The 'R' is not my plate - I blanked out the numbers but obviously missed one pic. The wheel nuts are uber JDM and are SUPER lightweight lock nuts so they serve a valuable purpose. I think they look good against the gun metal wheels because they offset the dark color. They also match the valve caps that came on the car. The wheels are ridiculously light too which helps the power/weight ratio - adjustable suspension is great too - and all cert'd

ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 (edited) hey its just my personal opinion so dont go shooting me for it, as he said about co-driving with his mate all the cars that beat them were RWD/4WD, doesn't that say something??? Also i stated that i was a noob to FWD and having only really driven RWD and 4WD cars i guess i dont know much about FWD handling characteristics, but i guess yes they do have good handling for FWD but sh*t in comparison to 4WD and RWD. Just my 2 cents Edited September 20, 2006 by sakdbma
m325i 709 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 A lot of people would agree they are the best handling FWD car you can get. They handle better than most front wheel drive based 4wd's too. They'll go around a corner quicker than a WRX...

EVLBMA 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Hey mate, looks mint. Even engine bay looks immaculate which would indicate it's been looked after. JDM oil changes are fairly rare!!!! Wheels etc. suit it perfectly. Nice choice. Who are you using for certification????
*RJ* 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 I used Dave at Auto Mechanix in Tokorora - I picked the car up from Taupo and my mate has used him a lot before so used him on my way home. He's done the cert and is sending the cert plate to an Auckland certifier to put on my car at some stage - currently just have the receipt for cert in the glovebox in case I have any troubles. The engine bay was covered in smog when I got it - it's had the service from nam, all belts and fluids replace

*RJ* 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Just got back from dyno tuning at Beyond - initial run was 121.4kw, now tuned it's running 132.3kw. So very happy with an 11kw increase. It's smoother the VTEC change over so it doesn't feel like such a kick but it's deffinately quicker.

ThreeOneEight 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 (edited) Nice one, I'm considering a return to Hondas myself! On the subject of FWD vs RWD, it's all down to the individual car- there are diamonds and dogs in both catergories. Think of RWD disaster zones, such as the Isuzu Piazza (I owned one for a year- but the handling owned me), and brilliant RWDs such as the AE86 Toyota. Then, awful FWDs such as the Austin Allegro, and the fantastic VW Corrado. It's all down to the individual car, chassis and suspension combined with the right engine really make a car. Sure, my old CRX "del sol" VTi-R looked um, 'questionable', but it went round corners brilliantly, never felt detached, and had a the magical 100bhp/ litre to keep it moving. Same can't be said for the dork in the automatic diesel Nissan Laurel on cut springs... but he'd still think he was cooler than me! (does mean drifts ow bei) Edited September 21, 2006 by ThreeOneEight
CaM 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 retard love you and your apparent attachment to non-fwdedness as well. my comment's less generalised than the former, not going into explantions and long winded crap that would throw this poor bastard's new car thread into an off topic nightmare, forum etiqutte etc. "retard" back on topic - plan on doing any track work in it? *RJ* 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Funny you should ask for the Togue pics... I'm going up the beach house on Saturday afternoon, really looking forward to the drive through the Tairua hills. Yeah going to do some track work - NZHondas track day is at the end of October, looking forward to it but quite nervous. Need to remember that even though my surname is McLaren I have not inherited the genes of Bruce
