Unplug the vanos solenoid first [that disconnects it] to remove it ,you will need a non-vanos intake cam & cam sprocket [longer duration] The short duration vanos-cam locked would be so gutless it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice-pudding! BMW created Vanos to get good top-end power without too much cam duration, and also get good bottom-end power at the same time with long duration cams a lot of cylinder pressure is lost during 'valve overlap' [a big cause of unburnt hydrocarbons/smog] plus the long duration cam wont idle as good or produce bottom-end power with vanos you can use a shorter duration cam for Idle/Smog/Bottom-end reasons and alter the lobe separation to recover at the top-end Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
