C32 AMG

Has anyone actually driven one of these?

Supposedly the W211's E55 AMGs little brother.

I read many forums saying stock for stock faster than the E46 M3?

Prices for these are quite good. Sleeper look and great stats on paper.

Mixed reviews I have heard though. Some say its a blast to drive and extremely quick and some say nothing to shout about and a very normal car (exact words quoted but coming from a car dealer whos drive E63s, GTRs and other exotics.

4 doors, Rather smallish engine, forced induction, 5 seats, hand built engine for a not too high price seems a good deal to me.

My former boss has one. Goes like a cut cat, but they are pretty thirsty to run (he was pretty happy to see 10l/100km on an Auckland - Taupo run). The service bills can be eye watering as well.

What year are you talking about?

I had a 1996 for a while..... Had just had the Wiring Loom replaced prior to my purchase.

Was a Kiwi New one also.

C32 AMG. Should be 2002 - 2004? Maybe you have the C36 or C43.

A car I've always liked too, but would never consider buying...

I buy a car based on how easy it is to get parts / identify things.

Is there a RealOEM parts database for Mercedes? I've looked in the past and never found anything.

stay away from the C32 AMG.

My mate had one, nice clean example. 50 something ks on it.

went well. ate rear tyres and gas but that was probably his driving.

started making tappet noises. he got it checked and they replaced some.

noised kept going. then bang. top of the valve broke off and dropped into the engine.

dead engine. complete rebuild. $13k in bills

not to mention all the other issues he had. (seat/headlight/interior faults)

edit:

Oh and yes I did drive it plenty. Yes it when like a cut cat. Prob as quick if not slightly quicker than the M3 at the time.

But only in a straight line.

It is no wonder Japanese cars can be so popular over a 'cheap' German car when they fail like this.

How does Mercedes let that happen... it really sends signals that the accountants dabbled much further than they should have! (but we all know this )

Well they both have 4/5 seats and an AMG badge, but otherwise, yeah.
