    The author/s of the first of the two articles referenced above seem intent only in espousing the wonderful imported concept of "induced demand". The second article takes a rather more thoughtful approach, and within the opening paragraph mentions several relevant factors affecting the apparent phenomena. Just jumping on the "Nature abhors a vacuum" wagon and damning all new roading as bad, is unhelpful. There are many factors that need to be considered, not the least of which would be the movement to remote working for many office employees. Conditions that exist in other more populous and mobile countries cannot simply be interpolated and assumed to apply to conditions in NZ. I have recently made several trips out of Wellington using the new Transmission Gully expressway as far as Levin and further. There is absolutely no doubt that the money was well spent. And why ? Because the new route bypasses all the small towns and the congestion they caused. Plus a great deal of the local traffic between those towns has now been removed from SH1. This same "miracle" improvement could easily be implemented in the Wairarapa, but apparently there are not enough important people living there. So cheap out and don't solve the problem as lifestylers and urban refugees boost the local commuting population. A road tunnel has been mooted for 50 years or more, but never seriously considered even when the machinery has been sitting idle in NZ. Thus the Rimutakas will continue to be a commuter nightmare in perpetuity. Of course, inner city traffic and suburban traffic in the major cities is a different issue, and can be treated as such. With population growth, an abundant supply of cheap vehicles, and the distance between industrial areas and residential areas, it may be possible to make a case for induced demand. But the cure does not lie in stopping improvements to the roading network. Cheers...

    Some relief from the rain means time in the garage, hope you lot are not getting flooded! The intake manifold hit the alternator, so got hold of a phenolic spacer, 26mm thick with cut outs for the o-ring seals on one side. Took the grinder to the alternator also to bring some of the fins of the back of it. Clears it all by maybe 2-3mm, so that's ok now. Seller offered some cash back for the non-fitting manifold so I'll leave it at that. Can slowly put the cold side back together. port injector carry 750cc @ 40psi injectors, plenty for now. Hot side gets a short filter, about 90mm long. fits well. Changing to a banjo top oil feed adapter to the turbo, as the previous version stuck up above the turbo, meaning the bonnet would likely hit that first, good fire starting opportunity.     Just finished making up my bait launcher canon proto type. Fired it tonight at 100Psi and achieved approx 200m outside the house with a lemon mounted in the barrel. The barrel length / pressure needs to be fine tuned. I know alot of these are for sale and have been made., but mine can safely be used at higher pressure due to the materials I have used and the way I have modified the sprinkler valve firing mechanism. I've made it to breakdown for cleaning and easy storage and so far it's hand held but will be building a launching pad/ rod holder and bait station. The barrel is 40mm and will have frozen bait bullets to include, sinker 2 baited hooks, traces and berley to make the bullet. Safety systems are built in and all gear apart from the barrel are 200psi rated. The safety valve is 150psi

    check for constant fuel supply when cranking , one common issue on these is syphon tank system seals/orings failing so when quarter tank and below it wont suck fuel from left side of tank try adding some fuel to the tank then see if it starts and runs or check if rhs is empty but still has fuel on lhs the green fuel relays often fail on these in the boot and fuel pumps die also with age etc (and sucking air from running on empty)
