So I've got a new car, and surprisingly it's not a 130i, or even a BMW 😅 It's a Volvo. Yes, not what you'd expect but I have some history with this car. It was my Dads, and it's extremely well maintained and in amazing condition. Completely stock, super dark tints and all. Bit of a luxury sleeper, this is one of ten NZ New sold. About 15 total in the country. S60 R-Design T6, Polestar Enhanced. S60: Sedan, 3 series sized R-Design is a bit like an M-Sport, exterior and interior trim package with upgraded brakes and springs/shocks etc. T6, Straight six turbocharged and AWD. Top of the tree model. They did make an S60 Polestar Halo model, kind of like an M3. Polestar Enhanced, is a factory tune to 330hp and 480NM(355lb/ft). Probably most equivalent to a 335i but more luxury, has the most comfortable seats you'll ever sit in. This thing is rapid, torque galore and grippy with the AWD that can split power up to 50:50 depending on traction/right foot buried. The exhaust sound is expecially meaty, with a bit of turbo noise at higher rpms. Somewhat different to what my 130i was, which is immediately confident in corners etc whereas the Volvo requires more to be confident with the grip. Volvo is faster, that same torquey-ness style of power delivery, but more, everywhere. And it's really nice place to be in. So far have absolutely nothing to do to it, I had it detailed and ceramic coated so nice and shiny + protected. She's pretty thirsty when you're getting down the road but I knew that going in. I don't do a whole lot of kms these days so it's great for me. Car has done less than 100k kms, mint condition and I got made an offer I couldn't refuse so now I'm an old man Volvo driver. Photos below after/before ceramic coat and detail. Now blindingly white. I will get some interior pics, it's very Scandinavian. Lots of leather.

That's awesome, love a flying brick! Bet you surprise a few people at the traffic lights... I imagine the interior is gorgeous. I've been meaning to write a thread on my Volvo I had last year. 2005 S60-R with the all important M66 space ball... heaps of goodies on it too. Was a rowdy beast. Can confirm Volvo seats are in a class of their own.

hey bud. Check your your hoses for vacuum leaks, check also the resistance of the crank and reference sensors on the bellhousing, these can give a stumbling idle. Also check the resistance on your ignition coil. I have had a few of these play up. Other things to check would be your idle control valve, take it out, clean it, make sure it's operating correctly with the correct resistance etc and check the intake house from your throttle body for cracks. Also the little pipes that come out the side of the throttle body need to be tightly fitted as they tend to have the knurled surfaces wear where they fit into the throttle body causing leaks. The sensor on the harmonic balancer is for the diagnostic port at the top of the engine and doesn't really do anything as far as connecting to the ECU. The plugs just go straight to the diagnostic port. Other things to check is pull out the oil cap while running and see how much crank case pressure you have, worn rings etc can make it idle funny if you're low on compression or there is blow by. Happy to check it out for you if you want to swing by my shop sometime in Glenfield. Love me a tech 1! I have one myself. Cheers 02102916373 SJ

Having been in the same boat not long ago, unless you’re spending big $ on a mint garage kept example they all have rust, it’s just a matter of how hard you’re willing to look. Only way to get a truely rust free one is to strip it all back and start fresh from there.

p.s yes the sensor from number 6 spark plug lead that has a plug on it will not be applicable to your pre-facelift car. Only the facelifts use this as part of motronic 1.3 engine loom

Both rad in their own way. Yellow caliper club, so naturally I approve

Thanks SJ, I think you may have had his car in before? I’m keen to get her as nice as the B3, so one step at a time. Gotta sort out some original wheels first…

Actually mine, just reposting here. Located in Wellington, asking around $14k. 122k KM. Good condition, low mileage hardtop (looks and sounds like a coupe with roof up) BMW 335i with the rare DCT 7 speed gearbox. 122k km. Brand new quality tyres and brand new 19" wheels (M4 M3 style). Well equipped with some nice options from factory: Sports Transmission Option (has two Sport Modes, unlike standard BMWs which have 1) BMW "Active Steering" option pack. Comfort Access (doors unlock when you touch handle Heated Seats Beige (actually a lighter bone colour) Leather Interior Aux Input Xenons, Rain Sensors, Aircon etc I also fitted BMW MSport Suspension which gives it a sportier ride and handling. NZ Radio Recently serviced (filters, oil, one temp lower NGK spark plugs as per enthusiasts recommendation). I also fitted a top anchor point for a rear facing child seat. Its a pretty fun car for kids, fits two in child seats plus a buggy in boot (and space to spare) with roof down! Is not remapped but these famously are super tunable.

Bought this last Friday for a good price. Being a track addict these days I was keen to get in to something RWD. The Good… -All paint except rear bumper and hatch lid is original -New RE003’s 225/45/17 on all corners. I think the fronts should be 205/50/17 with these wheels? -BMWP 6 pot Front Callipers -Last owner had it 9 years. Presumably has had annual oil changes every 10-12k -Valve cover gasket recently done, waterpump and tstat look new. -Clutch feels bitey Not so good… -Oil pan gasket. No surprises. -Lifter tick seems persistent, even after bleeding procedure and open road driving -Usual old car wear and tear, the most annoying being the loose rearview mirror (previous installation error and loose retaining prong holding it to windshield) -Shocks feel tired -Needs new brakes all round No dme codes but I reset the adaptations and chucked some 98 in. Goes better now. Plan for now is to tidy it up, add some track focused mods and see how I go!

She was very pleased with it, flew up to collect. They were recommended the car by another bimmersport member too! I know it's gone to a good home.

Had a decent go at cutting and polishing. Lots of trial and error along the way but getting the hang of it… Test area to see how hardy the paint is. On to cutting the fr guard. Then the sides and the roof, which I never thought would come up well, lots of deep scratches. Gave it a wet sand first. After cutting the sides and roof I expected this sh*t to appear under bright lighting.. Up until now i’d been using a rotary polisher so i switched to a DA and got rid of most of it. Happy how it turned out Got the hatch and bumpers to do. Won’t bother with the bonnet until i can find a straight one with saveable black sapphire metallic paint.

No bueno. Still makes a racket so guess i’m up for a replacement long block at some stage. With the new large disa it goes really well, will see how many trackdays it lasts. Pulled the oil filter out after 100kms of driving on fresh oil and there are no shavings or metal bits. I even tried proma Mbl8 snake oil. IMG_4311.mov

Chipping away at re-assembly while waiting for parts. An old coil must’ve been arc’ing on cyl 6 as the Mg has blown out turned in to dust. Had to clean alot of crap out of the spark plug well. Cleaned up the corrosion out of all 6 holes then brushed 2 coats of epoxy enamel to give it a seal. Giving some high heat jb-weld a jam on the blown out damage.. Vanos oil strainers had no sludge but a couple of small bits of swarf on them. Gave everything in the engine bay a good clean to help with future traces of oil and coolant leaks. 😄

The major engine work is now done. 4 lifters were squishy so replaced all 12. This was a thunder c&nt to remove (blind plug for locking the flywheel at tdc. The end you pull on snapped off so I spent about 4 hours stabbing and hitting it with a punch and bfh until it slid most of the way in to the flywheel. Then use the locking mandrel with a prybar to lever it all the way through. It got stuck to the flywheel so was able to remove it via the starter motor hole. The exhaust cam bearing and ledge journals had seen better days. Got the cam polished and lightly sanded the scoring on the caps. The state they were in: After a polish and sanding followed by a quick clean up: Engine timed up and now waiting for a few little gaskets and bits to arrive for the intake manifold. The large Disa is cooked so taking a gamble with a new one from aliexpress.

Bit of progress, dash vents painted: Sump gasket and engine mount inserts : Not great, not terrible underneath the valve cover. 2 soft lifters on the exhaust side, have ordered 12 lifters to replace. Intake side seems ok which is good, no need to buy more tools to remove those c&nty valvetronic springs..
